National statistics do not show whether a particular client will pay. They do support disciplined checks before an invoice ages.
What is established
According to Banque de France, 70,605 failures were recorded over twelve months to the end of July 2026.
This was slightly below the revised 70,816 recorded in June.
The figures concern proceedings opening judicial reorganisation or liquidation, not every form of business difficulty.
What this does not establish
The total proves nothing about a named client.
Safeguard proceedings, conciliation and late payment are not interchangeable.
Sector, size and the client’s actual position require separate assessment.
If you are affected: what should you do?
01
Check before granting terms
Verify legal identity, official notices and invoicing contacts.
02
Track concrete signals
Repeated deferrals and late disputes justify review.
03
Check before due date
Resolve missing-document issues early.
04
Escalate progressively
Keep an audit trail and define when commercial reminders end.
Points to watch
- —Do not label a client fragile from a national statistic.
- —Do not confuse cash tension with formal insolvency.
- —Do not grant repeated extensions without dated commitments.
